Building with Landscape Design in Mind: A Guided Exploration of Olana’s Frederic Church Center for Art & Landscape
Over forty years, the artist Frederic Church worked to design and create Olana’s landscape. In the fall of 2024, a landmark new visitor center designed by Architecture Research Office and Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects open to offer a more holistic understanding of Church’s large-scale landscape design. With native plantings, cross-laminated timber construction, and bird-friendly glass, the building works in concert with Olana’s living landscape and welcomes visitors to Olana’s 250-acres, which includes a man-made lake, historic carriage roads, and breathtaking views. Join The Olana Partnership to learn more about the Frederic Church Center for Art & Landscape’s conception, plan, and future during this special walk and workshop.
The program will consist of a guided landscape walk along 1 ¾ miles of historic carriage road, participatory conversation with program guides, a tour of the Visitor Center, and culminate with wine and cheese reception with a view of Olana’s historic house.
