ARTISTS ON OLANA
Six contemporary artists led performances and conversations along Olana’s historic carriage roads, examining practice and place through disciplines in photography, music, dance, scent, and film.
Frederic Church & Music of the Gilded Age with Dr. Christopher Brellochs

Dr. Christopher Brellochs has spent over a year researching and performing music for his sabbatical project, “Music of the Gilded Age in the Hudson Valley.” Brellochs will join Artists on Olana for a walk along the historic carriage roads telling stories of Church’s friendship with leading composers. He will explore the classical and historic origins of the saxophone through live performances in the landscape.
Audible Topography: Olana as Music with Bob Lukomski

Composer Bob Lukomski explores the sounds of Olana and its surrounding environment using technology to create a musical conversation in response to Frederic Church’s historic landscape.
Navigating Subjective Landscapes: A Cinematic Olana with Casey Robertson
Saturday, June 29 at 4:30 PM & Saturday, October 5 at 4:30 PM
Photographer Casey Robertson will introduce visitors to a series of international films from the last six decades portraying landscape as evolving spaces. A walk through Olana’s designed landscape will follow the presentation with a conversation about the cinematic experience of traveling Frederic Church’s artist-designed historic carriage roads and seeing his curated views.
Aromatic Olana: Following the Fragrant Landscape with Alexis Elton

Let your sense of smell be your guide. Take a moment to slow down and tune into the natural world. Join artist Alexis for a series of aromatic plants experienced during a participatory scent-walk specific to the landscape and history of Olana’s artist-designed carriage roads.
Hudson River Study: Impacting Olana with Daniel McCabe

Hudson River Study is a meditation through landscape photography on human interaction with the environment. Join artist and filmmaker Daniel McCabe, artist in residency at Basilica Hudson’s Hudson as Muse program, in conjunction with his exhibition of new photographic works on view July 1 – 30.
Inner & Outer Landscapes: Dancing Through Olana with A-Y/Dancers
Sunday, August 18 at 3 PM & Saturday, November 9 at 3 PM
Join A-Y/dancers, repertory dance company of the Hudson Valley, through an interactive tour of Olana. Witness dancers awaken the landscape as they intertwine with the living painting. View choreographed movement tailored to the cascading views, as members of the troupe open a dialogue about contemporary dance and its relation to the historic landscape.
