EVENTS:

Olana Eighth Annual Summer Party – Saturday, July 24, 2010

In 1865, Frederic Edwin Church, an avid traveler with a special passion for the tropics, journeyed to Jamaica. This was unlike his previous expeditions, as he and his wife, Isabel, were escaping from intense personal grief: the loss of their two young children. Throwing himself into the exploration and documentation of the island, the renowned artist produced a variety of works ranging from delicate pen sketches of palm trees to oil sketches of the atmospheric Blue Mountains and brilliant sunsets.

The best of the related sketches and paintings will be on display at a new exhibition coming to Olana in June: Fern Hunting Among These Picturesque Mountains, Frederic Edwin Church in Jamaica.  Later in July, the Olana-Jamaica connection will be further explored in the theme and celebration of Olana's Annual Summer Party.

Now in its Eighth year, the Annual Summer Party returns to Olana's East Lawn on Saturday, July 24, 2010.  We anticipate that this year's event will continue in the tradition of being one of the hottest and most fun events of the summer.  We are expecting 350 guests to join together in a Carnival-like celebration that will include authentic Jamaican cuisine, Caribbean-themed music, festive costumes and more.

The Olana Partnership is actively seeking support by way of sponsorship and volunteers to join the planning and host committees.  Understanding the economic challenges so many of us are facing, we have kept our sponsorship levels and ticket prices among the most affordable in town.  For more information about how you can get involved, please email Keith Nyhof at knyhof@olana.org  or phone 518-828-1872 ext 102.
